What Does Optima Maths Teach?
Optima Maths has three major strands.
-
to teach the full range of counting skills required to become a highly
competent mathematician so that essential knowledge can be recalled instantaneously;
-
to teach computational skills to high levels of accuracy and fluency, which
is crucial to being able to apply these skills;
-
to use and apply mathematical knowledge in a range of contexts such as word problems,
practical and theoretical investigations and whole-school collaborations. This way,
students explore ways in which maths is used in everyday life and learn its relevance.
